Getting Started: Your First Kit
The first thing everyone wants to buy when they start in Bohurt, they buy a sword. Its a tale as old as time. Then you look at suits of armour, helmets, C-belts, sabatons, cuisses, pauldrons, gauntlets and so on. It can be really daunting, not knowing what works best for you, where to buy from or who to speak to. As often the best advise is to speak to fellow fighters in the club, to see what they use and recommend. When you join us you’ll have access to a wealth of experience that will help you out. But until you do;
The first thing to buy is a set of boots. Most fighters only have one pair until they get worn out, as such there aren’t many spares kicking around. This way you have a good pair of boots that fit and you can rely on. Lots of fighters in BAC have bought these boots, in red…

The next thing to buy is a gambeson, thats the soft under armour that provides additional protection when fighting, it also holds your armour in place! You can also get gambeson trousers. Your armour will attach to your gambeson in one of two ways, the first is using arming points, which are squares of leather, sewn onto the gambeon, thonging (leather laces) are passed through and tied to hold the armour in place. The second is the smart strips, where the gambeson has pre-attached points where you tie the armour on to. Both have their merits, so consider carefully which you’d prefer.

The last bit of under armour you’ll need is a C-belt or a weight lifting belt. These are used to hold up your leg armour.
A C-belt is a customed built belt, made of leather or like a gambeson that you tie your leg armour onto. They can often be bought in bundle with your gambeson for a discount.
A weight belt achieves the same thing once you’ve drilled some holes into it and attached some leather thonging. They can be purchased for around £30. Something like this - https://tinyurl.com/msth564n
